Comparative Analysis of Rankine Cycle Linear Fresnel Reflector and Solar Tower Plant Technologies: Techno-Economic Analysis for Ethiopia

The need to meet the world’s growing demand for energy in an environmentally sustainable manner has led exploration of various renewable (RE) resources power generation. objective this study is examine techno-economic potential concentrated solar plants (i.e., linear Fresnel reflector (LFR) and central receiver system (CRS) electricity generation Eastern African countries with a case on Ethiopia. was conducted using System Advisor Model (SAM). In order estimate economics two plants, Levelized cost (LCOE) net present value (NPV) metrics were used. According results obtained from simulations, LFR produced annual 528 TWh at capacity factor (CF) 60.3%. CRS also total 540 CF 61.9%. LCOE (real) found be 9.44 cent/kWh against 10.35 LFR. NPV both technologies positive inflation rates 2% below. An rate above renders financially impracticable. A real discount 9% projects economically unviable.
